Coastal–Inspired Bedroom

Victoria and Marcus Ford painted the walls of their main bedroom Dutch Tile Blue by Sherwin-Williams for a natural nod to the New England coast. The color also ties in beautifully with other nautical elements throughout the home. Passed-down knickknacks and furniture pieces give the space a collected, welcoming feel.

Soothing Gray Bedroom

While we can't all live in a picture-perfect cottage in the mountains, we can channel those vibes through a mix of natural wood, soft linens, and delicate gray wall color. To bring a dose of similar peace and quiet into your own rest space, seek out an ethereal white-gray mix that will highlight the natural light of your room.

Bold Blue Bedroom

Want to go bold but worried you'll regret it? Try a shade that leans darker for a saturated tone that won't overpower. Pair it with contrasting wall art, like these nature silhouettes, for a complimentary aesthetic that welcomes.

Soft Black Bedroom

A dark wall color creates a cozy cocoon of a bedroom, but steer clear of that dark dungeon feel by pairing charcoal or black with liberal doses of white. Here, white painted floors, pale lamps, and white and linen toned bedding provide a welcome contrast to the sleeping quarters' warm black-brown surroundings.

Ice Blue Bedroom

From chambray-like draperies and a periwinkle-tinged rug to a blueberry-checked headboard and cornflower throw pillows—a major wash of all things blue makes for the perfect bedroom. "Bright colors boost your mood, so choosing this for a bedroom is a sure way to wake up feeling energized," says EasyCare color expert Cynthia Cornell. "Try a blue in a bright shade to bring calm and serenity."

Seafoam Green Bedroom

A beach house or lake cottage is a place to kick back and have fun, so choose a color palette that reflects that sentiment. Seafoam green and school bus yellow may sound over the top, but the duo actually works in this bedroom because the "cool" wall color takes the edge off of the "hot" bed frame. Choosing a quilt or comforter that features both tones bridges the gap.

Dusty Blue Bedroom

Singer-songwriter—and serial renovator—Holly Williams enveloped her master bedroom in a soothing watery blue. Painting the ceiling a glossy white helps visually "raise" the small bedroom's low ceiling height—a common issue with old farmhouses.

Crisp White Bedroom

Nothing says modern farmhouse more than white shiplap. Whether updating existing shiplap boards in an old home or painting newly installed unfinished pine boards, get the fresh and timeless look with a pure white in a matte or eggshell finish.

Cream Bedroom

With a yellow undertone, this creamy paint color is the perfect neutral to provide a warm—but not too dark—and cozy feel. In her South Carolina family retreat, designer Melissa Ervin chose the pretty color to lighten the bedroom's original wood planks. To continue a calm and soothing palette, skip bright whites and instead choose wood tones, tone-on-tone neutrals, and dark accent colors such as navy or forest green.

Deep Blue Bedroom

Use paint to create a cozy bed nook within a bigger bedroom. The second homeowner Matt Albiani of Mate Gallery walked into the cozy (only about 12 feet by 15 feet!) freestanding art studio, he envisioned a captain's bed, but it took his partner Ron Brand a little longer to "see it." Says Ron, "I needed a couple of glasses of wine and a lot of tape on the floor, and then the penny dropped!" Once the bed was built, they hung the indigo textiles and added indigo-inspired wallpaper on the wall and ceiling.

Spa Blue Bedroom

Give your bedroom the full spa treatment by painting it in a sea of soothing, watery blue. If you don't have crown molding, consider painting both the walls and the ceiling the same color to create a continuous look. Continue the continuity with simple curtains in a similar tone and then add a white or neutral rug, bedding, and upholstery to balance the color. Along with white, a warm gray such as Dovetail from HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams, makes a nice choice for trim and millwork.

Pale Greige Bedroom

For a look that is airy and refined, understated greige makes the perfect color choice. Let the architecture of your room inform your design decisions. By painting the exposed ceiling beams the same color as the planked walls, homeowner Vincent Mazeau added some visual interest and kept the ceiling from feeling too lofty.

Dusty Pink Bedroom

You know that old trick about pink lightbulbs offering more flattering light? Well, the same goes for a soft pinkish-orange paint color. Here, in this bedroom by designer Heidi Caillier, an earthy lamp base, clean-lined sconce, indigo bedspread, and modern moss green nightstand offset all things rosy and ruffled.

Sky Blue Bedroom

To visually open up his oddly configured bedroom, homeowner—and Country Living photo stylist—Matthew Gleason looked for colors right outside his window, starting with the blue sky. To emphasize its slope and height, he used the pretty soft blue on the ceiling and then chose a contrasting white for the short walls. He continued the blue thread with an upholstered headboard and striped linens. Keeping everything in the same blue family but of varying hues keeps it more active and fun.

Khaki Green Bedroom

Talk about a cozy bedroom retreat! To play up this small bedroom's snug dimensions, homeowner Bailey McCarthy covered the walls and trim with a deep, rich khaki green paint color. A light wood four-poster canopy bed creates a comfy room-within-room feel and pops nicely against the dark wall color, while botanical curtains reinforce the straight-from-nature color palette and add softness.

Black and White Bedroom

When designer Kate Davis of Olive and Ford wanted to give her sleepy bedroom a boost, she combined a classic color combination and timeless pattern for totally modern results. "I liked this antique bed well enough, but it wasn't in keeping with the modern farmhouse aesthetic. The oversize black-and-white buffalo check on the wall is a total game changer," says Kate. "Everybody thinks it's wallpaper, but the truth is, I painted it myself in just one afternoon."

Dark Blue Bedroom

A moody blue paint color delivers your bedroom a sophisticated and serene look. "I picked the dark blue based on a paint swatch with fears I might regret it," says homeowner Debbie Propst, president of legendary furniture company Herman Miller, "but then I read the color was 'inspired by the dramatic Scottish skies." Debbie, who is 100% Scottish, felt it was sign. The unexpected choice of painting the ceilings the same color as the walls created a calming cohesiveness of color, rather than a choppy feel that a jarring white ceiling would have brought. It works because of the room's high ceiling height.

Blush Pink Bedroom

Tickled pin with the family's new addition, Tennessee homeowner Mandy Reeves swathed her daughter's nursery in a lovely shade of blush. The color is subtle and works well with soft whites and other pastel colors.

Olive Green Bedroom

Nature always provides the best color inspiration. In this pretty, well-appointed bedroom, the wall's rich earthy green color is pulled right from the leafy greens of the headboard's floral fabric. The green hue feels especially feminine when paired with a pretty purple.

Pale Blue Bedroom

For a pretty and relaxing bedroom, you can't top a soft pale blue. It's also a color that works well for lots of different styles, from coastal to traditional. Here, the bedroom takes a modern turn thanks to its black accent color. The pair of mismatched black twin beds (they work together because the headboards are the same shape and height) and black shaded floor lamps ground the room and add contrast to the airy wall color.

Pure White Bedroom

The easiest way to make a small bedroom look large is to paint everything the same crisp white. The tiny attic bedroom in this Texas farmhouse measures just 170-square-feet, but feels as airy and spacious as a room twice its size. To enhance a small space, keep most furnishings on the light side, but then layer in a few pops of happy color to add personality.

Deep Blue Gray Bedroom

"Dark colors make a space feel cozy, which is the ideal environment for sleep," says EasyCare color expert Cynthia Cornell. "However, be careful to only choose a bold, dark color when your bedroom has an abundant amount of natural light to balance out the cozy feeling with energy to help you wake up and start the day."

Pastel Pink Bedroom

Designer Bailey McCarthy embraced her love of pink and green full tilt by painting the walls in her daughter's room a soft shade of the former and choosing a traditional country bed frame in a leafy shade of the latter. An antique quilt looks surprisingly modern when paired with graphic heart print bedding from her Biscuit Home line. Vintage finds, like the Murano glass tulip wall sconces and the silk county fair banners hanging above the bed, infuse the grown-up-worthy child's bedroom with personality.

Ivory Bedroom

A soft neutral bedroom provides a calming spot for sleep. For a hint of "there, but not there" color choose a warm off-white for bedroom walls. The soft hue looks great paired with warm white trim (don't go too bright and crisp) as well as a mix of natural materials.

Navy Blue Bedroom

For a classic and cozy bedroom, you can't go wrong with a rich navy blue. The classic colors pairs well with lots of colors, but we love pairing it with red for an all-American nautical vibe, like in this Mississippi farmhouse.

Lilac Bedroom

In this well-appointed feminine bedroom, designer Caitlin Moran mastered the art of tone on tone with pale lilac walls, a purple upholstered headboard, and a lilac throw. White bedding breaks up the similar shades and keeps it from feeling overwhelming.

Dark Gray Bedroom

An old house often comes with rooms filled with uneven lines and lots of different materials. Painting the walls and ceiling the same dark color, such as this lead gray, minimizes the quirks and helps the different materials feel more cohesive. "The painters thought I was crazy to paint the ceiling, but I wanted the white bedding to really pop," says serial farmhouse renovator, singer-songwriter Holly Williams. A gold starburst chandelier adds a modern edge.

Off-White Bedroom

"When you spend a lot of time in one space, such as your bedroom, you want it to be relaxing and neutral," says Sherwin-Williams' Director of Color Marketing, Sue Wadden. "Painting your walls neutral or muted colors will help make your space feel more calming." In this sleeping loft of this Martha's Vineyard beach house, a creamy off-white paint reflects a plethora of light from the many skylights.
